How to Access and Use Grok AI?
Grok is the AI model used by xAI’s artificial intelligence chatbot, the AI company of X (formerly Twitter) and Elon Musk.
The model stands out for its sense of humor, something its competitors like ChatGPT or Bard lack.
What is Grok AI?
Grok is an artificial intelligence based on “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” developed by Elon Musk’s new startup, xAI.
This large language model aims to be more permissive and rebellious than its competitors, both in its responses and in the questions that can be asked.
The Grok-1 LLM model operates with “only” 33 billion parameters.
Announcing Grok!
— xAI (@xai) November 5, 2023
Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!
Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use…
Grok uses data from 𝕏 as both are owned by Elon Musk. Exclusive access to data is likely to differentiate LLMs in the future!
How to Access Grok?
Access to Grok is very limited at the time of writing this article (end of 2023). Only a few people would have access to the artificial intelligence. You need to request early access and have a premium X (twitter) account to access Grok.
🔥 Update: All X Premium+ users should have access to Grok starting on November 29.
Yeah.
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 22, 2023
Grok should be available to all X Premium+ subscribers next week.
To get access to Grok as quickly as possible:
- Go to the official Grok website
- Log in with your X (𝕏/Twitter) account
- Allow Grok to access your 𝕏 account
- Enter your email address to join the waiting list
- You will receive an email when you are given access to Grok!
Be patient, we are at the very beginning of Grok. Progressive invitation phases to the public alpha and beta versions of Grok will be required.
Why Use Grok?
Grok is an alternative to ChatGPT and other closed-source AI models. Musk’s AI model is said to have better results than ChatGPT (with its 3.5 model) even though it has just been released.
Elon Musk was one of the co-founders and early investors in OpenAI (and therefore ChatGPT). He was very critical when OpenAI decided to become a private company and no longer open-source. Therefore, it can be easily concluded that xAI and Grok represent Elon Musk’s vision of what OpenAI should have been.
Regular Mode and Fun Mode
Grok offers two modes of interaction with its conversational AI: the “Fun” mode and the “Regular” mode.
The Regular mode is similar to what can be found in Grok’s competitors: ChatGPT, Claude, Bard, and others.
The Fun mode will provide funnier and more troll-like responses, similar to the humor found in Elon Musk’s tweets.
Grok vs ChatGPT
Grok would be superior to ChatGPT in its GPT-3.5 version according to Elon Musk. This is possible because GPT-3.5’s knowledge is limited to the end of 2021 while Grok has real-time access to the internet thanks to its access to X.
However, GPT-4 of ChatGPT is better than the current version of Grok-1 LLM. Moreover, GPT-4 has access to the internet and has many more parameters in its model.

Grok vs Bard
Google Bard has been quite disappointing in the quality of its responses so far.
Therefore, it can be easily imagined that Grok has better results than Bard at the moment.
We will see as more people gain access to Grok.
I will test it for you as soon as I have access.
Grok vs Llama
Llama is probably the AI that will have the model closest to Grok. Llama has been trained on 70 billion parameters compared to Grok’s 33 billion. And you can test Llama 2 today and for free.
